More than 70% of the projects are failing. During the lifetime of a project, dynamics and the environment are changing impacting the project itself and often failing to achieve the desired outcome. Agile and Scrum are methods to deal with change and still be able to achieve the expected results. Scrum was initially used in IT but has evolved to an applicable methodology for most sectors.

What is Agile and Scrum

Agile is a collection of principles used in project management. Agile focuses on enabling teams to deliver work in small, workable increments, thus delivering value to their customers with ease. Evaluation of the requirements, plans, and results take place continuously. This helps the team in responding to changes in a quick manner.

The major principles of Agile are detailed in the Agile manifesto. Created in early 2001, the Agile manifesto details the different values and principles that embody the process.

There are two critical roles - the Scrum Master and the Product Owner. The Scrum Master professional is facilitating the project in order to achieve the desired outcome. In software development, that means that the Scrum Master is facilitating the Software developing process in order to achieve the set objectives. The Product owner works closely with the Scrum Master, but takes a lead role in setting the objectives and is responsible to maximize the value for the company.
